Operation Matilda

Urban Combat Mission

15/16th November, 2008

Location: East Timor.

SASR continue Operations in east Timor.

MISSION AND SITUATION TO FOLLOW...

Following the success of Operation Bartos, the PPF have effectively been vanquished from East Timor; Small pockets of die-hard supporters have remained behind to launch an insurgent campaign, but most have fled across the boarder to West Timor accompanying Indonesian troops who have withdrawn following high level diplomatic talks with the Australian government.

East Timor is now governed by an Australian occupational force and an Interim Coalition Governement led by the new leader of the Bacau Socialist Party, with members of other significant East Timorese political parties in the cabinet. High level talks between the factions within the Provisional Government and the International Community are ongoing with the aims of agreeing a constitution and for setting a deadline for elections.

November 15th - Maliana, East Timorese boarder.
An Australian helicopter carrying the provincial governor, a ranking member of the BSP, as well as senior members of other local parties is hit by small arms fire and goes down on the boarder. Although there is little perceived risk from the Indonesians in West Timor, however, it is known that the PPF have set up camps on the West Timor side of the boarder; if the PPF and/or renegade Indonesian troops were to kill or capture these local leaders it could reignite wide-spread violence across East Timor.

SASR Operating in the area are tasked with securing the crash site, the helicopter crew & local dignitaries as well as destroying the downed helicopter.

Do you have a postcode / address for the site? Its fair to say that the ETS boys don't have much in the way of a natural sense of direction...

Ta,

Ben.

The postcode for the farm just south of the site entrance is CT3 4NG. (Herne Bay Road, Sturry, Kent)
Hope this helps.
