Operation Atlas14/15th November, The Valley, WalesLocation: Drumnakilly, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland 1988
Situation: After a recent raid on a farm near County Tyrone where the Garda uncovered a weapons cache containing nearly a hundred weapons including AK47s, RPGs, Semtex and Military Mortars it has become clear this area is a major transport route for paramilitary groups like the Provisional IRA to transfer weapons and equipment in the fight against British rule.
Mission: Recent intel suggests that several ASU (Active Service Units) are operational in the Drumnakilly area and using local sympathetic farmers land to create resupply caches and even bomb making factories. 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment is tasked with policing the area and clearing any paramilitary threat. Elements of B Squadron SAS and 14th Intelligence company are to assist the Royal Irish in locating and identifying weapon caches and to eliminate any threat from the ASUs
