Operation Overwatch

7/8th November, Whinney Hill Urban Ops Centre, Catterick

Location: North Yorkshire, UK



Situation: 22 SAS have been urgently requested by an emergency COBRA meeting to attend a siege in a North Yorkshire town. The CRW wing at Credenhill has already dispatched a team to assist and advise the Police on site.

Initial reports are that a firefight broke out at a high street bank after North Yorkshire CID, with support of a firearms team, attempted to stop an armed robbery after an anonymous tip off. The gang began firing at the Police with assault rifles before fleeing the scene in a waiting car. Helicopters maintained a visual on the suspect vehicle as it was driven at speed into a residential area with pursuing officers close behind. The getaway vehicle then came to a stop outside a block of flats and the occupants fled inside.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers were being shot by the Police but with no apparent effects, in scenes reminiscent of the infamous North Hollywood shootout in 1997.

Negotiations have begun between the Police and the robbers, who are believed to have taken residents of the building hostage.




This is a real-time hostage rescue mission. We will be running training Saturday morning and afternoon before starting the scenario. It will then play out throughout the night responding to the threat as necessary. Planning, negotiations, immediate action teams, sniper and observation roles are all areas that you could be rotated through during the operation.
