Operation Goliath @ UCAP's THE SANDPIT, Kent, 12/13th May 2012
Location: Gereshk, Helmand Province, Afghanistan

Situation:
Taliban activity has increased in the Gereshk District as ISAF units prepare to hand power back to Afghan officials and security forces. The Taliban commanders want to undermine the significance of having ‘puppet’ Afghans controlling their townships again as well as showing ISAF to be falling short of their commitments of securing the safety of the local population.

The Taliban have ordered their fighters to ‘unleash divine fury and vengeance on the unbelievers’ in a maelstrom of violence to break the will of the ISAF members in the region and those Afghan’s sympathetic to their ‘occupation.’

Western Intelligence has picked up a rise in intercepted chatter relating to Gereshk and military chiefs have deployed Task Force 42 and TF 373 to the District. They hope to add more scalps to the ‘Joint Prioritised Effects List’ as they believe that upper and mid-level Taliban Commanders will be orchestrating the latest violence in theatre.

Hard arrests and offensive actions are being planned to clear this latest threat to Helmand security and remove a large number of high value targets from the JPEL. An increase in Western kidnappings in the area has alarmed ISAF command and they have received intelligence that the International news crew recently taken hostage is believed to have been moved in to an area local to operations.
