Hi guys,
Hope this is ok putting this here,
Myself , Flippy , Ian Wermerling ( wormbyte from TA events ) and Chris Elkins from HWM ( pd team ) along with two of my colleagues from my recent afghan tour ( Lee Biggs and Paul Warner ) are planning on doing an unsupported trek to Everest basecamp in february 2009 in aid of the charity help for heroes.
For those that don't know Help for Heroes is a charity championed by Jeremy Clarkson and his wife to try and raise funds for propper after care and support for badly injured British soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The main effort is to build a rehabilitation swimming pool at Headley Court so the soldiers cna have some privacy and recover in dignity ( at moment they are using the nearby public pool ) .
This is a cause close to my heart, many soldiers on Herrick VI were badly injured and lost limbs to minefields, IED's and sometimes gunshot ( treatment for severe bleeding often includes use of tourniquet which can lead to losing your limb ) , soldiers from both units i was attached to ( 1WFR/2 Mercian and the Gren Guards ) lost legs, feet and in some cases arms as well as other serious injureis. I worked on IRT from time to time and saw too many young soldiers that had lost or would later lose limbs.
For information on the trek , how to donate and for further information on the charity please go to this site :
http://www.justgiving.com/everest2009You can donate online or if you wold rather donate at a later time - Ie your skint right now lol just PM me with the amount you are willing to sponsor and we will add your name and address to our spreadsheet and the amount to the overall under "offline donations"
We will be adding pics as we go along of our various trips to the uk's mountains in prep and our training , also we will be writing up a blog of our preparations and for the trip itself.
Thanks, Scopey.
