I'm hot ..... like Pol Pot

« on: April 30, 2007, 10:16:22 AM »

Maybe its just the recent events we have all been doing but I'm finding my pistol keeps getting whipped out more and more.

Now that the sun cares to shine down on my SIG warming up the gas nicely I think I'll be keeping it extra handy at the up coming events.

At the ranges I have found myself needing to use a weapon my pistol seems the better option. It never catches on anything, it leaves me with both hands free (for anything that might need a free hand)  Wink - Great for rapid deployment and the CQB training wouldnt have gone nearly as well without a side arm.

An essential peice of kit for events I think - plus it looks quite good

Anyone find that they are using their pistols more and more?

to tell you the truth ive never shot an AEG before, but ive seen both sidearm and rifle in action and it seems like youre not the only one that prefer's there side arm  not because it looks good it's because it's more relible and accurate aswell it usually used at the right place at the right time i:e CQB/ with the rifle it's mostly spray and pray unless it is switched to burst or put on single (like the pistol) the only advantage with the rifle is it has the ammo

yeh..i agree pistols are been used more.
however i think that is because people are getting more experienced, and understand the benefits in carrying a sidearm.
a pistol should be used as a back-up..ie you have a problem with your main weapon/out of ammo, no time to re-load/ or depending on your enviroment CQB/Sniper
the problem is ammo..or lack of..so use of the pistol should be only when needed.
i would never go ingame with just a pistol, you need you main weapon for distance and supression.
many atime a pistol has saved my arse, so they are worth carrying...plus yeh they look good as well Grin

Every good operator should carry a side arm, your personal continuation training should include primary weapon stoppage drills. Practice with a decent sling so the primary weapon can be dropped while your secondary option is selected. Continue to practice magazine changes on the move, no point sitting still while you change. Fast aggressive action is the only thing that will get you out alive.

I concur, sidearms should be recognised for what they are and most importantly their limits, where they are useful and where they are not. My boys always carry sidearms and sometimes I can get through an entire day without touching it, other times it has saved me from hypothetical death. Our team wears them drop-leg and I ensured that everybody had slung their primary so that they could actually withdraw their sidearm unimpeded, you'd be surprised how many people seem to miss this.

mmmm very nice, we use the DE one, cheaper, but the build qaulity isn't the same, the metal slide is its saving grace, though the performance seems similar.

Not much cop when wearing DPM, but  I always like a colt 1911 framed pistol worn in an inside of the waist band holster around by my right kidney. Hidden by a jacket, and drawable in under a second.

Don't like the grip of Glocks and SIGS, but don't mind a Beretta 92 in really dirty places as the grit doesn't cause the (sloppy)  slide to jam which is a major problem with the 1911 frame when its been tightened to improve accuracy.

Normally end up carrying the P99 somewhere though, but definately not on my thigh...can't stand it...always seems to  slide around and get in the way.

BIG SIGH.........

Here here Bruce.  I was gutted enough knowing that I'd never be allowed to buy a pistol, let alone having my pride and joy taken away.  My heart felt sympathies.

I too can't stand drop leg anything really.  If I'm going to run or crawl, both of which I deem essential manouvres for potentially any combat situation, then I find they really hinder your movement and get in the way.  I like to keep my sidearm accessible, but close to my central body mass so that it doesn't flap around.  Pardon the pun, but with a drop leg holster, your pistol's out on a limb.

All that said, I have to say I'm the opposite to Jimmy.  Perhaps because I'm getting more and more comfortable with the usage and feel of my primary weapons, I find I am needing to resort to my pistol with increasing rarity.  However, I have realised that not carrying one is usually a big mistake waiting to happen.

TBH i always carry one usually a G17 in a covert waist or my sig in my recon vest
dont really use them that often as situation hasnt dictated though ive been doing practical pistol shooting to get the mag change on the move up to speed
pistols are great as long as their shortcomings are not ignored  and nothing makes me shake my  head more than seeing a group assault a position and a player discard his main armament for his pistol ( usually to get mown down moments later  Grin) wnen theres nothing wrong with it

I agree with Arlins in that there is a time and a place for a pistol and that is normally when your other weapon has stuffed up.

That & the rare occasions when an enclosed space justifies it.

I carry one but rarely use it, I certainly prefer grenades/pyro as a contact breaker for those "oh shit" moments.

Still, horses for courses and all that.

i've not used a pistol at any events for a while, my M4 has been very reliable.
but its good to know that should the situation arise i have a plan B.

that said, i should get plan B fixed!

i took the 5 storey at catterick with NV & a  Socom, very heart racing Obviously it was late at night & very dark, it came into its own allowed room clearing proper sneaky beaky style.

I did have Gaz with an M4 covering the corridors though top back my ass up!

I agree with Kieth, for the night gaming that goes on nothing beats NV and a Socom.

Playing nearly all the time with my aps i have to always carry a pistol be it the Socom or a Glock19 which i use whenever im moving, that and playing countless pistol games in warringtons lazer quest arena made me love pistols.

Only bit of advice for the hot summer games either upgrade the hammer spring or dont fill your mags full of gas as it gets that warm the seals wont break contact when you pull the trigger... I still ache from my last experience of that lol
