Intelligence has revealed that the Taliban are planning to stage an attack on a summit of international dignitaries in Kabul. ISAF's multinational Special Forces groups have been tasked with protecting these dignitaries and preventing any disruption to the summit.
The Taliban is unrelenting in their desire to wear down the resolve of the West and make them withdraw from Afghanistan. They see this land as theirs and the presence of NATO as an insult preventing them from governing the country in their strict religious style. They plan a coordinated attack on the Embassy District of Kabul, targeting NATO’s HQ as well as key Western Embassies and locations.
Having witnessed similar attacks in previous years, ISAF have refined their Quick Reaction Force’s response and have a large pool of multinational Special Forces at their disposal in such situations. With visiting dignitaries in the capital for a summit on Afghanistan’s future governance, the potential fallout, in the full glare of the world’s media, could be catastrophic for ISAF and their mission.
